Orville, the new Star Trek-inspired (and not-so-subtly parodied) series from Seth MacFarlane, marks his return to live action. The new TV series, set to debut on FOX on Sunday, September 10, 2017, will bring MacFarlane's signature humor to a series about a team of explorers on a futuristic space vessel, the USS Orville.
Before the panel at San Diego Comic-Con, which hits Saturday evening, Deadline confirmed that a rumored guest star would be stopping by the voyage: Charlize Theron. The Academy Award-winning actress gets back to the big screen next weekend in Atomic Blonde, but her return to the small screen should be a lot of fun.
Theron and MacFarlane struck up a friendship starring together in A Million Ways to Die in the West, the 2014 irreverant comedy MacFarlane also wrote and directed.
No word on what kind of role Theron will play, but the nature of the show and the fact she's a guest star point to her playing some kind of alien. More details are expected at the SDCC panel, where cast members MacFarlane, Adrianne Palicki, Scott Grimes, Penny Johnson Jerald, Peter Macon, Halston Sage, J Lee, Mark Jackson, and Chad Coleman, and producers David A. Goodman and Brannon Braga will attend, and likely debut some new footage of the sci-fi comedy.
