We all know the iconic shots of astronauts standing proudly on the lunar surface — but what about the rest of the film roll from the moon missions?
A new auction at Drewatts Bloomsbury's auction house is offering up dozens of vintage NASA photos featuring shots that didn’t really make the cut for wide, public release. Those guys we sent to the moon? They weren’t exactly professional photographers. In addition to those images that inspire us to be better human beings, there were a boatload of shots with bad exposures and people’s heads cut off.
It’s a fascinating peek behind the curtain of some of the most ambitious efforts ever mounted by the human race, as we get to see distant shots of astronauts' butts as they walk away, and random blurry pics of folks swapping out film in their moon cameras. We’ve pulled several highlights from the From the Earth to the Moon: Vintage NASA Photographs collection below, via Sploid.
