Following months (and months) of delays, the Wachowskis’ new sci-fi epic Jupiter Ascending finally arrives this weekend. Want a sneak peek?
The studio has released several new clips and some behind-the-scenes footage in one last promo push heading into Friday night, and not surprisingly, the footage is just as weird as one might expect from what has been described as a massive, gorgeous mess.
Early reviews are already starting to roll in, and it sounds like that lengthy delay might not have done much to improve the film's quality. It’s being described as everything from an “ill-advised misfire” to a “convoluted” “visual wonder.” With the minds who created The Matrix and Cloud Atlas at the helm, we’d expect nothing less.
Here’s the official synopsis:
Jupiter Jones (Mila Kunis) was born under a night sky, with signs predicting that she was destined for great things. Now grown, Jupiter dreams of the stars but wakes up to the cold reality of a job cleaning toilets and an endless run of bad breaks. Only when Caine (Channing Tatum), a genetically engineered ex-military hunter, arrives on Earth to track her down does Jupiter begin to glimpse the fate that has been waiting for her all along – her genetic signature marks her as next in line for an extraordinary inheritance that could alter the balance of the cosmos.

As if that weren't enough, the studio has also dropped nine minutes of behind-the-scenes footage showing some of the stunts and action set pieces:
