Netflix is often a treasure trove of great television and film. Now it's a treasure trove of terrible film.
That’s right. The Satellite of Love has beamed classic Mystery Science Theater 3000 to Netflix.
For those of you who missed the 1990s, MST3K wasn't a show about a man consigned to a space station, where an evil doctor forced him to watch horrible movies. That was merely an excuse to put a man and his two robots in front of a screen, where they make fun of these B-movie "classics." Some of the worst films ever made, including Santa Claus Conquers the Martians, Teenagers From Outer Space and Zombie Nightmare (starring Adam West), have been skewered by the writers of MST3K; as it happens, all of these movies are in the public domain.
Netflix has the aforementioned films, plus other best-ofs — or is that worst-ofs? There are 20 MST3K episodes for streamers to enjoy and/or cringe at:
The Giant Gila Monster
Hercules Against The Moon Men
Horrors Of Spider Island
I Accuse My Parents
Manos: The Hands Of Fate
Merlin’s Shop Of Mystical Wonders
Santa Claus Conquers The Martians
Teenagers From Outer Space
If you've never seen MST3K before, or haven't seen it in a while, now is the time to exercise your funny bone: The new MST3K, starring Jonah Ray, Felicia Day, Patton Oswalt and others, will hit Netflix on April 14.
