Compared to Darth Vader or Han Solo, Boba Fett has an almost microscopic amount of screen time in the original Star Wars trilogy, and yet he's joined both of those characters as icons of science fiction. Why? Simple: It's the helmet. Now a group of craftsmen have joined together to create their own versions of Fett's headgear, and you can buy them all for a good cause.
Earlier this year, Boba Fett costume site The Dented Helmet banded together with worldwide Imperial costume organization The 501st Legion for "The As You Wish Project," a fundraiser for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Together they rounded up more than three dozen artists and special effects companies and asked them to craft their own interpretations of either Fett's helmet or an Imperial stormtrooper or clone trooper helmet.
The fruits of their labors will be displayed beginning today at Star Wars Celebration VI in Orlando, Fla., and over the next 10 days all of them will be auctioned at the Make-A-Wish Foundation's eBay store. All proceeds go straight to the foundation.
We've assembled 20 of the Fett helmets below, complete with links to their respective auction pages. At this point, you've got about nine and a half days to make your bets (and some of the prices are already getting pretty high). To see the rest, head over to the Make-A-Wish eBay page.
