The mighty Chris Hemsworth has already gone cosmic in last year's Thor: Ragnarok, and is set to do so again in this year's Avengers: Infinity War. A new report now claims that the actor may be gearing up to take another walk on the weird side: Hemsworth is reportedly circling a Men in Black spinoff film.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hemsworth is in "early negotiations to star in Sony's self-styled spinoff of the sci-fi action comedy franchise." Hemsworth would play a new MIB agent in the film, which would not feature Will Smith or Tommy Lee Jones.
THR notes that the new film will be directed by F. Gary Gray (Fate of the Furious), and has a script written by Iron Man alums Matt Holloway and Art Marcum. The report likens the new spinoff's relation to the previous MIB films as being similar to the bond between Jurassic World and Jurassic Park — they would bring in new characters, but still user the original films' MIB universe as a base. The outlet also notes reporting that the new film is looking to "round out a diverse ensembles cast," with potential leads including a white man (presumably the Hemsworth role), a "female of color, and an older man."
This is the some of the first solid news on the MIB franchise since the idea to combine it with the 21 Jump Street films failed to materialize. Though it would be quite a departure to have one of these films not showcasing the banter of Agents K and J, Hemsworth has a proven track record for comedy. Look no further than his stellar work in Thor: Ragnarok for proof of that.
As for his action chops? Look at the man— we think he'll be more than up to the task. The film is already slated for release on June 14, 2019— but in the meantime, would you watch a Hemsworth-led MIB film? Let us hear your thunder in the comments!
