Chris Wood is set to return as Mon-El on The CW’s Supergirl, and the actor hinted that he may finally be suiting up in his superhero duds when the show returns.
Last we saw Mon-El, his Kryptonian escape pod was sucked into a wormhole after leaving Earth to avoid death by lead poisoning (as you guys know, Daxamites are deathly allergic to lead). The mystery of where he went will no doubt be explored in Season 3, but we may also see him finally put on the red and blue suit the character wears in the comics.
In a recent interview with Den of Geek, Wood said: “Obviously, if and when he comes back, where he’s been, what happened to him, what he carries with him because of whatever experience he had will throw some really cool new dimensions into the show in a way that fans will be pretty excited about.”
In the comics, a wormhole takes Mon-El to the Phantom Zone, where he is rescued by the Legion of Superheroes (who cured him of his lead allergy) 1,000 years in the future. They also give him a flight ring, which was seen several times in the Fortress of Solitude on Supergirl.
As for the costume part (as well as the evolution of his character), here's what Chris Wood had to say: “The whole point of this character is to watch the evolution of this character who is flawed, going from this mess into donning a cape and looking like an image of purity and heroism. For me, that’s the coolest part of the character.”
I for one can’t wait to see the rest of Mon-El’s journey on the show and hopefully see the Legion of Superheroes (can we have Brainiac 5 #okaypleasethanks?) introduced to the whole of the Arrowverse. Supergirl returns on Oct. 9 on The CW.
