When you think of Anne Hathaway and Jason Sudeikis, the first image that comes to mind might be that of an eager fashion assistant and a guy in an Adidas track suit doing the Running Man. Or maybe it's a Princess and the guy scheming with his friends to off their bosses.
Whatever it is, their roles in Colossal are sure to be a departure from it.
Nacho Vigolondo's unexpected monster movie tells the story of Gloria (Hathaway), an unemployed writer too busy partying her sorrows away to face them head on, much to the chagrin of her live-in boyfriend, Tim (Daniel Stevens). After yet another all-nighter causes Tim to break up with Gloria, she returns to her hometown to figure stuff out and quickly reconnects with her childhood friend, Oscar (Sudeikis).
At first, Gloria slips into an easy and comfortable new life with Oscar and his friends Joel and Garth, free from the pressure and judgment she faced back in NYC. But after a night of binge drinking leads to Gloria and Oscar accidentally discovering a very unique and inconvenient "ability," the two also begin to uncover the truth about their elementary school days.
Soon after, Gloria has no choice but to face the personal demons she's undoubtedly been avoiding with alcohol and partying, as well as some unresolved childhood trauma that involves her old friend Oscar.
We had a chance to ask Anne and Jason about their characters and what kind of unusual super powers they'd each want to have. Colossal is now in theaters.
