Roy Harper is coming back to Arrow. The CW has announced that Colton Haynes will be reprising the role of Arsenal for a short story arc when the show returns in 2018.

The news was made official today, a few months after the former Teen Wolf actor fueled the rumor mills that his character would be back to the superhero series and a few days after star Stephen Amell basically spilled the beans on Facebook.

Haynes will return on the 15th episode of the season, which will air in 2018. The reasons for Roy's return to Star City have been revealed in a statement by executive producers Marc Guggenheim and Wendy Mericle, who said: “Roy is called back to Star City to help resolve an urgent matter with high stakes for the team. His short visit turns into something surprising when he reunites with Thea and sparks a change in both of their lives that will have long-lasting consequences …”

Roy Harper made his debut during the first season of Arrow and ultimately became part of Team Arrow as the vigilante known as Arsenal. He stayed on the team until the end of Season 3, when he pretended to be Arrow in order to clear Oliver Queen’s name and then faked his own death and left Star City. Harper returned in Season 4 for one episode when Felicity’s father the Calculator blackmailed him into working for him.

There was even some speculation that Harper could have been the man behind the mask of the Earth-X version of Prometheus during the “Crisis on Earth-X” crossover event, but it turned out to be Tommy Merlyn.

With Black Canary, Wild Dog, and Mr. Terrific having left Team Arrow to create their own team following that huge fallout with Oliver, Felicity, and Diggle in the midseason finale, I've a feeling the Green Arrow will need all the help he can get. And Arsenal may be it.

Arrow returns on Jan. 18 with Episode 10, titled “Divided.” Are you excited about Colton Haynes’ return as Roy Harper on The CW series?
