Paramount has just confirmed that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fan fave characters Bebop and Rocksteady will appear in producer Michael Bay’s second movie.
The news was revealed during the studio’s CinemaCon presentation. ComicBook.com reports Paramount showed some renderings of the characters as they appear at this particular stage of the movie’s development (some concept art was released a while back, and you can find it easily online). This will be the first time Bebop and Rocksteady will appear on the big screen; the two characters weren’t introduced in any of the other live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies so far.
Sure, the characters did not appear in the original Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird comic-book series. In fact, they were created for the popular 1987 cartoons in a bid to give Playmates more mutants to make action figures out of. But they were highly popular with the fans and became a successful addition to the franchise.
IDW Publishing recently reintroduced Shredder’s two dimwit henchmen into their ongoing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic-book series, which successfully rebooted the franchise by including continuity stuff from each of the Turtles’ many, many incarnations. Bebop and Rocksteady even made headlines for *gasp* killing one of our beloved Turtles, Donatello.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 is set to hit theaters on June 3, 2016. Are you excited to have Bebop and Rocksteady make their long-awaited debut on the big screen?
