While the DC universe is going all in at the movies with Justice League, television's Arrowverse is about to offer up its own crossover that would make Aquaman and the gang blush. We're talking heroes, heroes, and more heroes. Oh, and alt-universe Nazis, too.
Members of Team Arrow, Team Flash, the Legends of Tomorrow, and Supergirl's too-good twosome of the Danvers sisters will all unite to celebrate the long-awaited wedding of Barry Allen and Iris West. Joe West looks about ready to break all of our hearts with a toast, as only he can. Kara seems happy to just get away from it all. Barry mentors Oliver Queen on love. It all seems really happy, they get married, and the crossover is over.
Except, yeah, that's not how things work around here. Nazis from an alternate earth called "Earth X" storm in and ruin everything, as transdimensional Nazis are prone to do.
Take a look at the extended trailer below and then we'll dive in:
Epic doesn't even begin to describe how this looks. It looks to combine everyone's power sets, and seeing Oliver Queen jump through one of Cisco's breaches to fire an arrow? Yeah, this thing is going to be crazy fun. But that merely scratches the surface.
The thought of the team battling with Nazi versions of themselves has us immediately thinking of the "Justice Lords" arc from the old Justice League animated series, and that can only be a good thing. The CW's press release reads as follows:
THE EPIC FOUR-WAY CROSSOVER WITH “ARROW,” “SUPERGIRL,” “THE FLASH” AND “DC’S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW” BEGINS — Barry (guest star Grant Gustin) and Iris’s (guest star Candice Patton) wedding brings the gang together, but things go awry when villains from Earth-X attack the ceremony. All of the superheroes band together with help from their super friends like Citizen Cold (guest star Wentworth Miller), The Ray (guest star Russell Tovey), Felicity Smoak (guest star Emily Bett Rickards), Iris West and Alex Danvers (Chyler Leigh) to take on their most formidable villains yet. Earth’s mightiest heroes — Green Arrow (guest star Stephen Amell), Supergirl (Melissa Benoist), The Flash (guest star Grant Gustin) and White Canary (guest star Caity Lotz) — lead their teams into battle to save the world.
Yes, that's right: Citizen Cold. It makes sense, but we're also going to need a Citizen Cold spinoff now. If Supergirl has a fascist counterpart called "Overgirl" (that has her powers but not her values), it would make sense that some of the Arrowverse villains would have their own lawful-good counterparts. The only thing that makes us a bit sad at the bantering of Citizen Cold is that this will be Wentworth Miller's last appearance in the role. Leonard Snart is finally going wherever it is Malcolm Merlyn went, never to recur again.
As great as past crossover events have been, this one looks like the biggest yet. It's the first one where Kara is bringing her sister, all of the teams seem packed to the gills, Olicity is back to maximum fan-teasing strength, Mick Rory loves crab legs, and as if all of that weren't enough, Russell Tovey (Being Human UK, Doctor Who, Sherlock) is guest-starring.
We couldn't spot Diggle anywhere, so here's hoping he's okay -- but also interesting is that the Earth X version of Flash is the Eobard Thawne Reverse Flash, with a Nazi Barry Allen nowhere in sight. Could this mean that the Earth X team started down their road to fascism after their Barry's death, the same way the Justice Lords did back in their animated epic? It's possible, but nothing is certain. This is only a trailer, and there are surely more surprises in store.
The two-night event begins November 27 on The CW.
