When news broke that The Walking Dead’s Jon Bernthal would play Frank Castle, aka the Punisher, in the second season of Marvel and Netflix's Daredevil, the Internet ’sploded. With the Marvel Universe’s deadliest vigilante and antihero hitting the streets of Hell’s Kitchen next year, expect him and the Man Without Fear to butt heads and lock horns in Season 2.
But how big will Frank Castle’s role in Daredevil be?
The good folks over at Nerdist report that, according to their source, newly appointed showrunner Marco Ramirez is currently referring to Season 2 as "Daredevil vs. the Punisher." Now, that sounds like a pretty big role indeed. But does that necessarily mean Punisher will be the main villain of the season? Apparently ... NOT.
Since Daredevil (Charlie Cox) managed to take down Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio) at the end of Season 1, pledging never to kill in the name of justice (something about which the Punisher has no qualms whatsoever), it’s only natural that Matt Murdoch will come to blows over Frank Castle’s execution-style type of vigilante justice when this one pops up on Matt's home turf. However, the site reports that the title of "Daredevil vs. the Punisher" is more about a “philosophical battle” that’ll take place over the season.
With Kingpin now in prison, there will be a power vacuum left to fill in Hell's Kitchen. The rumor is that Bullseye will be the one to fill it, meaning that he’ll be the main Big Bad. With Matt’s former love interest, Elektra (who was briefly and vaguely mentioned in Season 1), confirmed for Season 2, one can only imagine the murderous, crazy villain will kill the woman Matt loves (as the story always goes), and sees Daredevil and the Punisher join forces to take him down. And who will be pulling the assassin-for-hire's strings? Could it possibly be Kingpin doing it from the comfort of his prison cell? That scenario is more than likely.
What do you think about this "Daredevil vs. Punisher" idea for Season 2? You can catch the first AMAZING season of Daredevil on Netflix.
