UPDATED at 8 p.m. PT: A stuntwoman working on Deadpool 2 has died on the film's set in Vancouver, Canada, local authorities confirm to SYFY WIRE.
Police said that the stuntwoman, who Deadline has identified as Joi "SJ" Harris, an "experienced rodad racer" working on her first film, was killed following an on-set incident Monday morning at approximately 8:30 a.m.
In a statement posted on its website, authorities said: “Vancouver Police can confirm that a female stunt driver has died on the set of Deadpool during a stunt on a motorcycle."
Local network CTV News reports that Harris appears to have been maneuvering the motorcycle when she lost control and crashed into the window of a building across the street. Two ambulances reportedly arrived on the scene. Metro News Toronto reports witnesses who claim the stuntwoman seems to have sped up at the end of the stunt, and dodged pedestrians before the crash.
In a statement to SYFY WIRE, the studio behind the film, 20th Century Fox, said: “We are deeply saddened by the accident that occurred on the set of Deadpool 2 this morning. Our hearts and prayers are with the family, friends and colleagues of our crew member during this difficult time.”
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
