We have the casting call that went out for Deadpool starring Ryan Reynolds as the Merc With a Mouth. Actually, it went out for “WHAM!”, which is the movie’s working title. Gotta love it. Anywho, what's interesting is that it provides hints for the characters who will share our foul-mouthed mercenary's world.
The names on the casting call are, of course, not the real character names we’ll get in the movie, but rather code names. So you can imagine that it’s a tad difficult to make out their true identities. However, our colleagues over at Comic Book Movie have made some pretty interesting guesses as to who some of those characters might actually be. But first things first. Here’s the casting call:
[RIDGE] Any ethnicity, early 30s to early 50s. Big, muscular, dangerous, violent, vain, insecure and more than a bit of a dick … but with a sense of humor. He is not a psychopath, he’s practical but morally neutral—he doesn’t enjoy torturing people, he just doesn’t care. ROLE REQUIRES THREE SEQUEL OPTIONS.
[LINDSAY] Any ethnicity, 20s, attractive and worldly. Smart, tough, beautiful but a little bit broken. Nothing has ever been easy for her and she’s developed a thick skin and cynical outlook. But she’s not a victim—she may not have a great life but she’s holding it together and does what she needs to get by. She’s got a great sense of humor but it leans heavily towards irony and sarcasm. ROLE REQUIRES THREE SEQUEL OPTIONS.
[SIMON] Any ethnicity, late 20s to early 40s. Quirky, great sense of humor. Smart, funny, but more than a little bit slippery. Fast talker, always looking to make a buck. He looks out for himself first and foremost, but reveals loyalty at the end of the day. ROLE REQUIRES THREE SEQUEL OPTIONS.
[SHIRLIE] African American, late 60s to early 80s. Worldly, great sense of comedic timing, sarcastic, dry, funny. ROLE REQUIRES THREE SERIES OPTIONS.
[KATHY] Any ethnicity, early to mid teens. World weary, great sense of comedic timing, sarcastic, droll sense of humor. ROLE REQUIRES THREE SERIES OPTIONS.
[KEREN] Any ethnicity, early 20s to late 30s. Serious, big, tough. ROLE REQUIRES THREE SERIES OPTIONS
[ALBERT] Any ethnicity, early 30s to early 50s. Big, muscular, dangerous. ROLE REQUIRES THREE SERIES OPTIONS
Okay now! So. According to CMB, “Ridge” sounds like a villain to them (and yeah, to us too), and they are guessing that it could probably be Ajax, who happens to be Wade Wilson’s (Reynolds) main adversary in the leaked screenplay. A tweet by Jeff Sneider from The Wrap (just remember that it's NOT OFFICIAL) has revealed that the role will be played by actor Ed Skrein (The Transporter Legacy) — the first Daario Naharis on Game of Thrones. We can totally see Skrein going toe to toe with Reynolds as the bad guy in the movie.
Moving on to “Lindsay.” By the description above, it’s clear that she’s the movie’s female lead. The part could be played by Jessica De Gouw, Morena Baccarin, Taylor Schilling, Crystal Reed, Sarah Greene or Rebecca Rittenhouse, who are all currently in the running for the part. There are some speculations, according to CBM, that this particular role is that of either Domino or Vanessa Carlyle — both of them mutants.
As for “Simon,” they believe that based on the description above, he could be Weasel, Wade’s sidekick. Sneider claims the role is being filled by actor and comedian T.J. Miller (Big Hero 6), pictured above.
The good folks over at CBM also deduce that based on “Shirlie’s” age, the character is most likely that of Blind Al, who lives with Wade and is a bit of an Aunt May (from Spider-Man) figure in our mercenary’s life. As for “Keren,” their best bet is on her being Angel Dust, a confirmed character to be played by the recently cast Fast & Furious 6's Gina Carano, while "Albert" sounds to them like a "henchman type." Their guess is that he could actually be Garrison Kane, Sluggo or Wyre, who also appear in the version of the script that was leaked online a couple years back.
What do you guys think? Do you believe Comic Book Movie’s guesses are mostly right on the money? Who else do you think these characters could possibly be?
Deadpool is slated to be released in 2016.
