The latest trailer for director Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman has dropped during this evening's Kids' Choice Awards on Nickelodeon, and it's a mini origin story with a burst of super-powered energy courtesy of Diana's indestructible armbands.
This new destiny-defining promo teases Wonder Woman's childhood years before it tosses Gal Gadot's Diana into the island training arena on Themyscira with Robin Wright's Antiope, putting the princess through an exhaustive combat regimen where her immense powers are manifested, then hops on over to Jolly Old London as she as Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) explore early 20th-century England. The action eventually steers its way to the brutal battlefields of World War I, where Diana wields her gleaming sword and golden lasso with refined skill.
Still absent from the stand-alone superhero saga is the imposing presence of David Thewlis' Ares, the God of War, a character we were all hoping would show his face ... or at least his awesome armor.
For those of you still in the dark on Warner Bros.' upcoming Wonder Woman flick, here's one more swing of the official synopsis:
Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers ... and her true destiny.
Introduced via a pre-recorded message by headliners Gal Gadot and Chris Pine, the latest look also offers a glimpse of the film's tonal balance, blending observational humor and lighter situational gags into the more serious good-vs-evil aspects as the heroic daughter of Hippolyta attempts to end Ares' wrath upon the Earth.
Wonder Woman bursts into theaters on June 2.
