Back in May, Doug Liman announced has was exiting Warner Bros.' planned Justice League Dark movie due to a scheduling conflict with his other genre project, Chaos Walking, starring Daisy Ridley, Tom Holland, Mads Mikkelsen, and Kurt Sutter.
The director, who also stepped away from another comic book property, 20th Century Fox's Gambit, in favor of Justice League Dark, spoke to Cinema Blend about pulling out of the DC project, hinting that its script wasn’t where he wanted it to be. Here's the money quote:
“You know, I develop more movies than I make. There's a weed-out process, and it's just that when you get to the comic book one, suddenly everybody hears about them. So, the script never got to a place that was special enough for me. Not for lack of trying.”
Those disappointed that a live-action Justice League Dark has stalled can still take heart: You can watch the superhero team do their supernatural thing in animated form thanks to Warner Bros. Animation's own Justice League Dark, with Matt Ryan reprising his role as John Constantine.
