The upcoming Doctor Who Christmas special (which we almost lost) will not only see the return of the First Doctor in the form of An Adventure in Space and Time actor David Bradley (where he played First Doctor actor William Hartnell), the episode will also feature two of the Time Lord’s classic companions from the 1960s.

Titled “Twice Upon a Time,” the Yuletide special will see the return of Doctor Number One’s companions Ben and Polly, originally played by the late Michael Craze and Anneke Wills. See: Exhibit A below:

According to the latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine (via Digital Spy) Ben Jackson, who traveled aboard the TARDIS as companion to the First (William Hartnell) and Second Doctor (Patrick Troughton), will be played by Jared Garfield (Hollyoaks), while Kingsman: The Secret Service actress Lily Travers will replace Anneke Wills in the role of Polly. (Check out pics in the gallery below.)

Written by departing showrunner Steven Moffat (the special is Moffat and Peter Capaldi's swan song), “Twice Upon a Time” will have Capaldi meet David Bradley as the 12th and First Doctors near their regeneration, with Capaldi handing over the keys to the TARDIS to Broadchurch's Jodie Whittaker, the first woman ever to play the beloved Time Lord. Moffat said about the episode:

“It's the 12th Doctor saying to Number One, 'Listen, you have to [change] or all of this stuff won't happen!' and the 1st Doctor saying, 'Well, what about you?' — they go off on a crazy adventure with Mark Gatiss and Bill Potts (Pearl Mackie) and decide whether or not they're going to carry on ... which of course, they are!”

There you have it. Are you excited to see Ben and Polly return for one more adventure on Dec. 25?
