Some new background information on the Joker, courtesy of a recent Dark Knight Rises tie-in book, hints at a connection that could point to a potential appearance by Batman's protégé Robin in the final film of Christopher Nolan's trilogy.
The Dark Knight Manual has a section detailing some of Batman's recent big-screen baddies and offers up some insights into the history of the mysterious Joker (Heath Ledger).
Here's the choice tidbit. See if you can spot the Robin connection:
The Joker does not appear to have any connections to Gotham's crime syndicates, though he knocked over a mob bank. One possible motive for this, which could also explain the clown motif, is the Haley Brothers Circus. The circus was recently in town for a two-month engagement and it was rumored their boss had connections to Sal Maroni. The Joker could be a former Haley Brothers employee with some kind of grudge against the mob.
Yep, that's right—the Joker could've been tied to the Haley Brothers Circus, home of Robin's daredevil parents the Flying Graysons, who died after one of Maroni's goons sabotaged their stunt.
This all ties in to the speculation that John Blake (Joseph Goron-Levitt) could be a potential sidekick, or successor, to Christian Bale's Batman—or it could just be a bit of an in-joke. We have no idea. But it sure is fun to guess.
What do you think? Is John Blake just a Gotham PD cop, or do you think he will don some kind of cowl before this is all said and done?
