We’ve been hearing a lot of buzz about Marvel’s upcoming Universe Live traveling show, and now we finally have some actual footage from the production. No surprise: It. Looks .Awesome.
Some of the first behind-the-scenes clips have debuted via USA Today, along with the overall plot for the massive live performance. Featuring fan favorites like Iron Man, Spider-Man and Wolverine on a mission to stop a rogues gallery of classic Marvel baddies, the event is set to visit at least 60 cities in the U.S.
The event is essentially a massive Marvel circus hit with gamma rays and Super-Soldier Serum, and they’ve even hired former Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus alum Shanda Sawyer to serve as show director. As Marvel chief creative officer Joe Quesada put it: “It's going to feel like Marvel, it's going to smell like Marvel, it's going to taste like Marvel.”
The footage shows off some of the prep work going into the huge stunts and action scenes, and it looks positively epic. This thing should have some of the biggest set pieces this side of a straight-up Marvel blockbuster.
As for the plot, it’ll go something like this: Iron Man, Wolverine, Thor, Captain America and Hulk team up with to stop Loki, Doctor Octopus, Red Skull and Electro from gaining control of the Cosmic Cube. Of course, this being Marvel, expect a boatload of other heroes and villains to pop up (since they’re not stymied by film right deals in a stage production).
Check out the footage below and let us know what you think.
The tour begins July 10, and you can find a list of dates and purchase tickets here.
