Marvel's Captain America: The Winter Soldier was a great film. Unlike its superhero peers, it skipped the splashy effects and opted for a darker, more political tone. It was set in the heart of S.H.I.E.L.D. and followed its most talented assets: Captain America, Black Widow and Hawkeye. Oh wait, Hawkeye was glaringly missing in action.
Jeremy Renner, who plays the famous archer, recently hinted that his character could appear in the next Captain America sequel. When speaking with Collider he said:
"There are rumblings of Captain America 3. I don’t know what’s going to happen there. I’ve got to find the time, man (laughs). I’m trying to stay home and I can’t.”
Hawkeye popping up in Cap's next outing would make perfect sense. It felt strange that he was nowhere to be found in The Winter Soldier, considering he and Black Widow were joined at the hip during The Avengers finale. Both characters aren't as super as their counterparts, but are gifted in their own right. Plus, neither of them have headlined their own solo films (crosses fingers for Black Widow). Also, Hawkeye would be a great contrast to Captain America's new BFF, Falcon.
At the moment, Renner is busy working on Mission: Impossible 5. His schedule's pretty full, so we're not sure he'd be able to join Cap for a bigger role. But let's be honest, doesn't he deserve to? If any member of the Avengers needs more character development, it's Hawkeye.
Would you like to see Renner join Captain America 3?
