Before Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets rolls out on the big screen, a mobile game based on the franchise is set to debut — and we have a first look.
Dubbed Valerian: City of Alpha, the mobile game will dive into the backstory of the metropolis Alpha, which plays host to thousands of different alien species. The game tasks players with building and maintaining their own space station. The game is being developed by Spil Games in association with EuropaCorp. The game will be available on iOS and Android.
“We are very excited to be working with Spil Games to expand the Valerian universe,” said the film’s producer Virginie Besson-Silla of EuropaCorp. “They are bringing the stunning visual experience of the film from the big screen to mobile and engaging players in a unique and immersive game, while simultaneously offering an exclusive deep dive into the backstory of the world of Valerian.”
There’s a whole lot of history and canon to explore, and Spil Games’ CEO Tung Nguyen-Khac said City of Alpha will focus on the 590 years before the film, and dig into the backstories of these different characters and planets fans will find on the big screen. Not to mention, the art looks pretty great.
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets opens July 21. Check out the first pics from the game below and let us know what you think.
