A comic book super team is coming together in the pages of Dark Horse Comics to tell a terrifying horror miniseries from the pages of Hellboy, and we have an exclusive look at five pages of the book before it drops Sept. 7, 2016.
Co-written by Hellboy creator Mike Mignola and i, Zombie co-creator Chris Roberson, along with art by Christopher Mitten (Criminal Macabre, 30 Days of Night), colorist Dave Stewart (The Walking Dead, Darwyn Cooke's DC: The New Frontier), and cover artist Laurence Campbell (2000 AD, Punisher), Rise of the Black Flame is a five-issue miniseries about "an ancient, evil power," according to the press release.
In the new book, young girls have gone missing in Siam, and the "trail leads to the jungle hideout of a bloodthirsty cult -- the Cult of the Black Flame." And if the name of the cult sounds familiar, then you're probably already a fan of the Mignola-verse.
"There have been several villains in Hellboy’s world who’ve been called the Black Flame, and the striking visual of a skeleton burning with dark flames is pretty hard to beat,” said Roberson. “In Rise of the Black Flame, we reveal that before there was a man called the Black Flame, there was an ancient cult hidden deep in the jungles of Southeast Asia known by that name."
"We plumb the depths of cruelty and ruthlessness that groups of people are capable of reaching, and explore how this cult, which reaches back to prehistoric times, is connected to the most dangerous villain in the history of the Hellboy books.”
The issue goes on sale tomorrow, but you can check out a few pages of the book now.
