Last February, Warren Ellis returned to DC to relaunch Jim Lee's WildStorm universe, along with artist Jon Davis-Hunt, to much acclaim. The title introduced new iterations of characters Grifter, Voodoo, the Engineer, Jenny Sparks, and more.
But now, with The Wild Storm's first solo spinoff series, Michael Cray enters the fray.
While we saw the man also known as Deathblow return to comics pages earlier this year, WildStorm: Michael Cray #1 opens with the professional assassin as a man without a mission. He was pushed out of International Operations, and might be dying due to a brain tumor -- which might actually be an alien life-form.
As if that's not crazy enough, when Cray begins taking jobs from Christine Trelane to bump off some targets, he is quickly pitted against a billionaire named Oliver Queen.
That is correct; by all indications, the WildStorm universe may be dipping into the DCU.
And in the exclusive SYFY WIRE preview below, you can check out some pages from DC Comics' WildStorm: Michael Cray #1 before it becomes available this Wednesday, Oct. 11. The title is written by Bryan Hill, with art by Dexter Vines, and N. Steven Harris; cover art is by Bill Sienkiewicz and Denys Cowan, with a variant cover by Gene Ha.
The official word:
Warren Ellis’ critically acclaimed relaunch of THE WILD STORM gets its first solo spinoff series! Michael Cray, professional assassin, has been betrayed by International Operations and has an alien life-form in his head that’s either killing him, transforming him, or both. The only thing that can bring sense to his life is for him to do what he does best: kill the wrong people for the right reasons. But Michael needs support and resources to hit back against I.O., and he gets them in exchange for working with Trelane, taking out her targets, his way. First up? A sociopathic Silicon Valley billionaire by the name of Oliver Queen!
