It's kind of hard to plan the superhero wedding of the year when you're locked up in prison, but that's the situation in X-Men Gold. Kitty Pryde and Colossus' impending nuptials have been put on hold while they face the charges against them. The short version is that the Gold team (including Rachel Grey, Storm, and Nightcrawler) were all duped by Mesmero into attacking the cops... and because Mesmero has covered his tracks, there's currently no evidence that can clear their name.
Fortunately, there's a new X-Men team: Rogue, Iceman, Armor, Magma, Magik, Ink, and even Pyro. After discovering his role in framing the X-Men, the newest Pyro is attempting to redeem himself. However, his change of heart may not help Storm, Rachel, and Kitty. Their old enemy, Callisto, has seemingly set up a confrontation in the prison yard. Crazy Maisie and her followers are attempting to make their names by taking down the X-Men.
Thanks to their mutant power inhibitor collars, the X-Men women are currently powerless. However, that doesn't mean they’re helpless! Far from it, in fact. Professor X ran a pretty tight ship back in his day, and his students still know how to fight.
Kitty also has an even greater advantage in unarmed combat, thanks to the skills she picked up from both Wolverine and the demonic ninja known as Ogun.
Somehow, we totally believe that Storm could deliver on the threat she makes to one of the guards.
Of course, winning the battle means little in the short term. And things are about to get much worse.
A threat in New York? That would probably be Scythian, an old god from the planet Dartayus. The X-Men pissed him off while they were deep in the Negative Zone, and he's on his way for revenge. Or it could be the Shredded Man, an eco-terrorist Inhuman who nearly defeated the Uncanny Avengers. Either way, Marc Guggenheim and guest artist Thony Silas are giving the new X-Men Gold everything they can handle.
X-Men Gold #24 will be released on Wednesday, March 21.
