TNT's Falling Skies is coming back for a fifth and final season, while The Last Ship will also return for a second, bigger season order.
The network has renewed its veteran alien-invasion sci-fi series Falling Skies, starring Noah Wyle, for a fifth and final season comprised of a fresh new batch of 10 episodes.
The network has also put out a 13-episode order of this summer’s surprise hit show, The Last Ship, which is a jump from season one's 10-episode run.
So that's some pretty awesome news in the world of sci-fi and genre shows, don't you guys think?
Oh, and it has also renewed Major Crimes for yet another crime-drama season.
Here’s what Michael Wright, president and head of programming for TNT, had to say on all the pickups:
“TNT’s refreshed and recharged drama brand is soaring this summer, and that is due in large part to these three enormously popular dramas. The Last Ship has become this summer’s top drama among key adult demos with its epic scale and visceral storytelling. Major Crimes continues to be one of the most enduring and popular crime-drama franchises on television. And Falling Skies has begun an ambitious and thrilling story arc this summer as it sets the stage for next year’s climactic final season.”
The Last Ship -- TNT’s post-apocalyptic (thanks to a very deadly worldwide virus outbreak a la Helix) sci-fi naval drama starring Rhona Mitra (Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, Strike Back) and Eric Dane (Grey's Anatomy) -- has garnered TNT’s highest ratings this year with an average of 7.2 million viewers (they also included the seven-days DVR playback), while Falling Skies has had an average of 5.5 million viewers.
Are you guys excited about Falling Skies being renewed for a fifth and final season? And what do you think about TNT picking up a second-season, 13-episode order for The Last Ship?
