The design folks at LEGO have heard the thundering pleas for an '80s-styled Voltron: Defender of the Universe play set, and now those strong suggestions have become a reality.

Last year, LEGO lover len_d69 submitted his idea for a custom LEGO Voltron set to the LEGO Ideas platform, and after tallying up the required 10,000 fan votes, the Danish toy factory will officially produce the massive model and offer it for sale to the public.

There's no denying the current wave of '80s nostalgia powering the collectible toy market, and the huge success of Netflix' Voltron: Legendary Defender animated series also helped push this one into production.

No exact details on the box art or final details are available as LEGO processes the plans and tweaks the engineering details for quality control measures, exact dimensions, and fabrication needs. This triumphant transforming Voltron set will be available sometime next year.

How do you like the looks of this Voltron toy and its five robotic lions? Were you one of the voting LEGO fans who helped push it over the top?
