We're into the promotional homestretch now for Star Trek: Discovery, as CBS has rolled out the first official set of cast portraits from the upcoming prequel series.
All the major regular cast members are represented here in a series of striking photos -- although except for the diversity of the characters, nothing else here particularly shouts Star Trek to this longtime fan.
Nevertheless, First Officer Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green), Captain Gabriel Lorca (Jason Isaacs), Captain Philippa Georgiou (Michelle Yeoh), Lt. Paul Stamets (Anthony Rapp), Cadet Sylvia Tilly (Mary Wiseman), Lt. Commander Saru (Doug Jones), Ambassador Sarek (James Frain), L'Rell (Mary Chieffo) and T'Kuvma (Chris Obi) are seen below, along with a batch of pics from various episodes to come.
Star Trek: Discovery has a lot to prove: that mining Star Trek's past instead of moving ahead into the future was a viable option, that doing a certain amount of retconning will be a risk worth taking, that fans won't be alienated by a season-long narrative arc focusing on war instead of traditional Trek themes, and that those same fans will cough up a few extra bucks a month to watch a Trek series after all the others were previously available for free.
We'll start to learn the answers to all those questions when Star Trek: Discovery premieres on CBS on September 24 before moving to CBS All Access for the rest of its 15-episode inaugural season.
