If you’ve been jonesing for a throwback to the glory days of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, Eisner winner Mark Waid’s new Avengers series has you covered.
Marvel has unveiled a first look at Avengers #1.1, the first issue in a new five-part series that will run alongside the publisher’s flagship Avengers ‘book. According to Marvel, the plot will focus on a secret from the Avengers’ past that comes back to haunt them. The story focuses on the transition from when the “original” Avengers began welcoming in a new era of heroes to their ranks. It promises to tell a story we were “never told,” which will have ramifications on the Avengers of today.
The preview pages show off the classic heroes Thor, Iron Man, Captain American and the Wasp taking care of business. Then we get a look at Cap welcoming reformed villains Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver and Hawkeye into the team. As a man already out of time, Cap isn't all that welcoming to the former baddies. Not surprisingly, it doesn’t go terribly well.
Avengers #1.1 hits Nov. 9.
