The first teaser trailer for the Divergent sequel Insurgent has arrived, and it’s not exactly what we were expecting. But that might be a good thing.
The first installment of the Hunger Games-lite series, which stars Shailene Woodley, did solid box-office business — which was enough for Lionsgate to pull the trigger quickly on this sequel. The first teaser footage is more of a concept than anything, focusing on Tris (Woodley) as she tries to rescue her mother from a fiery, floating house with a major Inception vibe.
As far as plot details are concerned, it’s a bit on the thin side. Obviously, for anyone who has seen the first film, this footage is likely culled from a dreamlike fear test scene in the actual film. But heck, considering how boring the first film was, this 1+ minute bit of footage was actually more exciting than anything they’ve done. So here’s hoping for the best.
Check out the synopsis for the sequel below:
The Divergent Series: Insurgent raises the stakes for Tris as she searches for allies and answers in the ruins of a futuristic Chicago. Tris (Woodley) and Four (James) are now fugitives on the run, hunted by Jeanine (Winslet), the leader of the power-hungry Erudite elite. Racing against time, they must find out what Tris’s family sacrificed their lives to protect, and why the Erudite leaders will do anything to stop them. Haunted by her past choices but desperate to protect the ones she loves, Tris, with Four at her side, faces one impossible challenge after another as they unlock the truth about the past and ultimately the future of their world.
