Sony Pictures has revealed the first trailer and poster for its upcoming Flatliners movie.

Directed by Niels Arden Oplev (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) from a screenplay penned by Ben Ripley (Source Code), the reboot/sequel stars Ellen Page (Inception, X-Men: Days of Future Past), Diego Luna (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), Nina Dobrev (The Vampire Diaries), James Norton (Happy Valley, Grantchester) and Kiersey Clemons (Justice League, The Flash) as a new group of medical students playing with near-death experiences. With dire consequences.

Kiefer Sutherland, who starred in director Joel Schumacher’s 1990 original alongside Julia Roberts, William Baldwin, Oliver Platt and Kevin Bacon, will reportedly reprise his original role of Nelson, but don’t look for him in the trailer below because the 24 actor is (and sadly so) MIA this first time round. Read up on the official synopsis before plunging into the world of Flatliners, opening in theaters Sept. 29.

In Flatliners, five medical students, obsessed by the mystery of what lies beyond the confines of life, embark on a daring and dangerous experiment: by stopping their hearts for short periods of time, each triggers a near-death experience – giving them a firsthand account of the afterlife. But as their experiments become increasingly dangerous, they are each haunted by the sins of their pasts, brought on by the paranormal consequences of trespassing to the other side.
