David E. Kelley’s adaptation of Stephen King’s Mr. Mercedes will be making a killing on the small screen next month, and after getting some tantalizing glimpses at the AT&T Audience Network series, thanks to a handful of sneak peeks and images, we finally have the first trailer.

Mr. Mercedes is the second Stephen King adaptation to hit the airwaves this summer (Spike’s The Mist was the first) and stars Harry Treadaway as insane serial killer Brady Hartsfield, who engages in a game of cat-and-mouse with Brendan Gleeson's retired detective, Bill Hodges.

It also stars Jharrel Jerome (Moonlight), Scott Lawrence (Avatar), Robert Stanton (Mercury Rising), Ann Cusack (Nightcrawler), Mary-Louise Parker (Weeds) and Holland Taylor (The Truman Show), with Kelly Lynch (Magic City), Justine Lupe (Madam Secretary) and Breeda Wool (UnReal).

The 10-episode TV show is based on the master of horror’s 2014 crime thriller, and from what I can see in the trailer, it looks like we're going to be in for an intense thrill ride (pun not intended). Read up on the synopsis:

A demented serial killer taunts a retired police detective with a series of lurid letters and emails, forcing the ex-cop to undertake a private, and potentially felonious, crusade to bring the killer to justice before he can strike again.

Directed by Jack Bender (Lost, Game of Thrones), Mr. Mercedes will premiere on Aug. 9, a month before the big-screen adaptation of Stephen King’s It floats into movie theaters on Sept. 8, and just a few days after The Dark Tower arrives in cinemas (Aug. 4).
