We know Disney is looking for some young talent to anchor the new trilogy of Star Wars films, and it sounds like they might be looking very close to home for the next hero of a galaxy far, far away.
In a wide-ranging interview with MTV, Zac Efron (That Awkward Moment, 17 Again) let slip that he is a big Star Wars fan and has actually had a meeting about the upcoming sequels. Efron, of course, skyrocketed to fame after his appearance in Disney’s hit High School Musical franchise. Hmm. Well, this is interesting.
Here’s the choice excerpt:
“Yeah, I just went and met with them. So I don't know. It would be cool. I love [the Star Wars movies], I love them, but… who knows?"
This, of course, doesn’t mean Efron is on the short list or is legitimately in the running, but it does confirm he has at least taken a meeting. Considering his movie-star good looks and appeal to young ladies, you’d have to think Efron is in talks about the “Luke Skywalker-esque” hero role in the franchise.
Though it might sound like a terrible idea off the bat, Efron has come a long way since his High School Musical days, and is actually starting to put out some halfway-decent movies. He also has a relationship with Disney and is a proven commodity for the Mouse House. But the guy would probably bring a stigma when it comes to sci-fi fans, so that’s the tricky side.
What do you think? Could Zac Efron be the new hero of the Rebels?
