I'll admit I had high hopes for 2010's low-budget sci-fi invasion movie, Skyline, and the trailer delivered some genuinely cool imagery of a Los Angeles assault of otherworldly visitors. Sadly, the actual film didn't deliver on its promise and was filled with cliched dialogue, recycled sci-fi tropes and a shockingly abrupt ending. I'm being kind here, folks!
Now a follow-up titled Beyond Skyline, which teased a theatrical poster back in February, is set to flood theaters with extreme extraterrestial terror and the new trailer is getting a lot of attention. It stars Captain America: The Winter Solider's Frank Grillo and centers around his L.A. detective character who embarks on a dangerous mission to save his abducted son aboard a ginormous alien spaceship.
It's actually set during the exact events of the first film so it exists as a close cousin. It launches wide internationally in November, followed by a limited American release and VOD campaign.
Filmed two years ago, Beyond Skyline is co-written and directed by Liam O’Donnell (Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem, Skyline), and also stars Iko Uwais (The Raid), Yayan Ruhian (The Raid), Bojana Novakovic (Drag Me to Hell, Devil) and Jonny Weston (Under the Bed, Project Almanac).
Check out this impressive trailer for Beyond Skyline and tell us if you think it might wash the bad taste out of your brain after the original's borderline badness.
