The "final" chapter in Frank Miller’s Dark Knight saga isn’t looking so final these days.
With the first issue of the eight-part Dark Knight III: The Master Race set to hit shelves November 25, Frank Miller has revealed he now wants to pen a fourth chapter in his seminal Batman saga — and he’ll be writing this one solo. For Dark Knight III, Miller teamed up with writer Brian Azzarello and artists Andy Kubert and Klaus Janson.
In a telling comment, Miller said he “thoroughly applaud[s] what [Brian’s] doing … now that he’s doing his,” which seems to indicate Azzarello is definitely the lead writer on the third chapter. But, for the fourth installment, Miller said he’s taking the reins back and writing it himself. Miller indicated the fourth installment will be the last, but who knows. The run is, of course, set in the continuity established in Miller’s seminal 1986 Batman tale The Dark Knight Returns.
According to Newsarama, Miller said he was aware of the store Azzarello is writing and he’s in favor of the direction it’s taking. But, he wants to take some time to read and absorb The Master Race before diving into the next script. So, The Master Race is definitely canon — but it won't be the end of the story.
What do you think of getting another chapter in the Dark Knight saga?
