Good news, everyone! Futurama just won't stay dead.

Matt Groening's Futurama aired the last of its seven seasons in 2013, and now the Planet Express gang is returning for a brand-new double-episode podcast.

Original voice stars Billy West (Philip Fry, Professor Farnsworth, Doctor Zoidberg, Zapp Brannigan), Katey Sagal (Leela), John DiMaggio (Bender) and the rest of the cast signed on to the program as part of a promotional push for TinyCo's free-to-play mobile game, Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow, which launched in June.

The idea for the 42-minute "Radiorama" originated with Nerdist founder and diehard Futurama fan Chris Hardwick, who suggested to Groening and Futurama executive producer David X. Cohen an audio-only version of their cult classic.

"Last year, I cornered two fine gentlemen — Matt Groening and David X. Cohen — and pitched the idea of doing a new Futurama episode as a podcast/radio play because it's one of my favorite things AND I NEED MORE OF IT," said Hardwick via Nerdist.com. "Today I am drooling with unfiltered joy to say that A) it's actually happening, B) I got to voice the villain (Klaxxon) and C) I'm a freaking head in a jar in Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow, a game I've been feverishly playing since it came out."

After TinyCo agreed to back the project, Groening and his writers got to work. And what resulted is a unique drama that takes its cues from the game and vice versa as it follows Fry and the crew on a routine expedition to Junkleon 7, where they meet Klaxxon, a nefarious being composed entirely of soundwaves from 21st-century podcasts.

Futurama has set off a strangely sci-fi-ish paradox where the episodes inspired the Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow game, and now the game is inspiring new episodes,” adds Cohen. “Hooray for infinite loops!”
