Gail Simone started a Porg song battle and it's just the best

In these troubled times, one thing has united us, one beautiful shared object of affection almost univerally adored. And that is the porgs, the precious little balls of fluff that we pray aren't the Jar Jar Binks of Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Since they were first gazed upon back in July after footage was released at D23, the porgs captured our hearts. According to Pablo Hidalgo from LucasFilm Story Group, "Porgs are native to Ahch-To, and can be found dwelling along the cliffs of the island where Luke and Rey are. In many ways, they’re the Star Wars version of puffins. They build nests. They can fly. Their babies are called porglets."

Their. Babies. Are. Called. Porglets. The cuteness. We can't handle the cuteness.

The internet has been on that porg grind for a while now and the memes have been resplendent. The perfect things to distract you from missing Carrie Fisher, at least momentarily.

The newest trend in porg memification? Porg song battles. Porg-eoke. Porg rock, if you will. And it was started by none other than one of our patron saints, Gail Simone.

With this battle cry (all battle cries should include Peter Frampton, frankly) Gail rallied a small Twitter army to join her in song. Here are some of the best of the bunch.

And while some of these aren't songs, they certainly put a song in our hearts.
