With Rupert Sanders' live-action version of Ghost in the Shell currently playing in theaters around the world, a new anime series has been announced that will capitalize on the hot property's energized appeal. The original production companies, Kodansha and Production I.G, announced word of the project today, with exciting news that a revitalized series based on creator Masamune Shirow's Ghost in the Shell manga has been given the thumbs-up.
Kenji Kamiyama (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex) and Shinji Aramaki (Appleseed) are aboard to co-direct the anime. No further details on plot, format or release dates were made available. Production I.G. is the studio behind the original 1995 anime feature and, more recently, 2015's Ghost In The Shell: The New Movie; and the Ghost in the Shell VR Diver smartphone video that's debuting in 2017.
