After starring in the critically acclaimed The Girl With All the Gifts, Glenn Close will be returning to the zombie genre with Amazon’s new half-hour comedy pilot titled Sea Oak.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Close will star in the pilot (which was picked up back in March) penned by George Saunders (Lincoln in the Bardo) and executive produced by Jonathan Kraus. It's interestingly described as a “mix of zombie drama and family revenge comedy.”
Okay, Amazon! I’ll definitely bite (pun intended) — even though the zombie thing is starting to be overdone on the small screen (we currently have: Netflix’s Santa Clarita Diet, Syfy’s Z Nation, the CW’s iZombie, and AMC’s The Walking Dead and its spin-off Fear the Walking Dead) — but that’s because Close is an awesome, award-winning actress. And yes, I'm also intrigued. So, what is Sea Oak about? Here’s the synopsis:
Sea Oak revolves around Aunt Bernie (Close), a meek, unmarried woman with no children in a working-class Rust Belt city who dies tragically in a home invasion. Compelled by sheer force of dissatisfaction, she comes back from the dead full of rage and determined to get the life she never had. She proceeds to inflict a range of demands on what's left of her nuclear family, including a quasi-stripper nephew and two feckless nieces, who live in a low-end subsidized hellhole of a housing complex called Sea Oak.
What do you think of Glenn Close returning to TV in Amazon’s half-hour zombie series pilot Sea Oak?
