The CW's Supernatural is set to hit a new milestone with its 200th episode this Tuesday, and we’ve got two great behind-the-scenes videos that look at the musical craziness coming up.
The episode, said to be a “love letter to the fans” by showrunner Jeremy Carver, finds Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) on another case at an all-girls school, where the ladies are in the midst of producing a musical based on Carver Edlund’s Supernatural books -- fake beards and all.
In an interview with TV Guide, Ackles said, “The person who wrote what you're seeing on stage took some liberties,” with Padalecki adding, “Fans should expect to see some Sam and Dean stereotypes.”
Titled “Fan Fiction,” the musical is not the first episode to break TV’s (in)famous fourth wall. It’s a long-running tradition in the Supernatural world to see the show incorporate fandom into the storylines -- often to friggin’ hilarious results.
“The writers are very aware of what the fans think, and the fans are, I think, very aware that the writers are very aware of what they think," Padalecki explained. "So we've been able to kind of poke fun of ourselves in a way that we knew the fans would enjoy because they've kind of asked for it.”
Entertainment Weekly reveals that it’ll also feature a rendition of “Carry On Wayward Son” and that it potentially has only three male characters -- with two of them being the Winchester brothers. So ... who’ll be the third one?
Here’s what Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles told TV Guide about Supernatural’s 200th episode.
Now take a look at EW’s video, which goes even more behind-the-scenes of that all-girl musical with a ton of great footage:
