The first trailer for director Alex Proyas’ upcoming myths-filled movie Gods of Egypt is finally out. Lionsgate has "Released the Kraken," so to speak, with an action-packed trailer for the fantasy adventure movie from the director who gave us The Crow, Dark City and I, Robot.
Gods of Egypt boasts a great ensemble cast that includes Gerard Butler (300) as the Egyptian god Hades Set and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Game of Thrones) as Zeus Horus. Chadwick Boseman (Captain America: Civil War), Geoffrey Rush (The King's Speech), Rufus Sewell (Dark City), Brenton Thwaites (Maleficent), Abbey Lee (Mad Max: Fury Road), Courtney Eaton (Mad Max: Fury Road) and Elodie Yung (G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Daredevil) round out the cast.
This trailer is giving me a strong The Mummy meets Clash of the Titans meets Immortals vibe, with a dash of Stargate thrown into the mix, and looks like it could really be a fun popcorn movie. Fingers crossed. Have a look for yourself:
Here is a detailed synopsis of the upcoming movie:
Magic, monsters, gods and madness reign throughout the palaces and pyramids of the Nile River Valley in this action-adventure inspired by the classic mythology of Egypt. With the survival of mankind hanging in the balance, an unexpected hero takes a thrilling journey to save the world and rescue his true love. Set (Gerard Butler), the merciless god of darkness, has usurped Egypt’s throne, plunging the once peaceful and prosperous empire into chaos and conflict. With only a handful of heroic rebels opposing Set’s savage rule, Bek (Brenton Thwaites), a bold and defiant mortal, enlists the aid of powerful god Horus (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) in an unlikely alliance against the evil overlord. As their breathtaking battle against Set and his henchmen take them into the afterlife and across the heavens, both god and mortal must pass tests of courage and sacrifice if they hope to prevail in the spectacular final confrontation.
Gods of Egypt will hit movie theaters on Feb. 26, 2016. What do you think of the trailer?
