Godzilla is the epitome of the giant-monster genre. The legendary kaiju has been around for more than six decades and starred in more than 30 films, countless comics, TV series, and more. Next year we get his latest big-screen release in Godzilla: King of the Monsters, but fortunately we don't have to wait that long to see him again. In just a matter of days, Godzilla is coming to Netflix.
Godzilla: Monster Planet, an anime film starring the title creature, was released theatrically in Japan back in November, but this month it's getting a worldwide release, and Netflix has just dropped a trailer to get us excited. The trailer comes to us from Netflix Japan, so all of the characters are speaking Japanese, but it makes one thing clear: This is the biggest Godzilla the world has ever seen.
Set 20,000 years in the future, the film imagines an era in which Godzilla towers over not just people and buildings, but the very landscape itself. He's massive, and if he's not stopped, humanity will be wiped out. So, people do what any future-dwelling humans do: They attack Godzilla (and other monsters) while riding cool flying space bikes.
There's not a whole lot of plot in the trailer, but it's basically humans in spaceships battling the biggest giant lizard monster you've ever seen. What more could you want?
Godzilla: Monster Planet arrives Jan. 17, worldwide, on Netflix.
