20th Century Fox has finally handpicked the lucky bastard guy who’ll compose the score for their eagerly anticipated comic-book movie, Deadpool.
Grammy-nominated composer Tom Holkenborg, aka Junkie XL, has been tapped to write the music for the film starring Ryan Reynolds as the Merc with a Mouth. The awesome news was announced via JXL's Twitter account over the weekend, and you can check it out below.
As we speak, Junkie XL is one of the hottest composers out there, Just look at the guy’s résumé! Yes, he’s been around since 1998, but I agree with Comic Book that his career really took off last year when he wrote the score for director Zack Snyder’s 300: Rise of and Empire, Neil Burger’s Divergent and The Amazing Spider-Man 2. His rap sheet for 2015 shows that he scored George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road and Black Mass, amongst others.
Junkie XL is also a frequent collaborator of Hans Zimmer (Gladiator, The Dark Knight trilogy) who is a longtime pal and mentor. Zimmer brought Junkie XL to work on additional material for The Dark Knight Rises and Man of Steel and has gotten him to compose the theme for the Caped Crusader throughout Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. I can't wait to hear that.
Directed by Tim Miller, Deadpool is slated to hit movie theaters on Feb. 12, 2016. What do you think about Junkie XL writing the score for Deadpool? Is he the right guy for the job?
