Producer Ridley Scott’s long-awaited sequel to Blade Runner is getting very close to preproduction, and now it looks like it could be adding a star from a much newer sci-fi hit.
Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy) dropped a tantalizing tease online, indicating he could be joining the cast of Blade Runner 2. If true, he’ll join returning star Harrison Ford and new addition Ryan Gosling. The tidbit comes from a Twitter post, where the actor is seen holding an origami unicorn. As anyone who has seen the film can attest, it’s a fairly iconic hint. As if that weren't enough, /Film notes Warner Bros. (the studio behind the project) has been calling attention to it, as well, so it seems like a solid connection to make.
Who could he play? There's no telling. Muscle would be a good guess, and it's worth noting he made one heck of a good villain in the latest James Bond flick, Spectre (along with his all-star turn in Guardians).
The new Blade Runner film will be directed by Denis Villeneuve (Sicario, Prisoners), with the original film’s writer Hampton Fancher and Michael Green (Kings, Everwood) putting the script together. Of course, Scott will also be back in a producing role, bringing even more creative continuity to the project.
