Guess who Robin Lord Taylor wants to direct a Gotham episode

Hint: He already has superhero TV experience.

Robin Lord Taylor, who plays Oswald Cobblepot, aka the Penguin, on Fox's pre-Batman series, recently found out that director Kevin Smith of Clerks, Mallrats and, uh, Jersey Girl fame was interested (via Screener TV) in getting behind the camera for an installment or six of Gotham.

Of course, Smith is not only one of the biggest comic book nerds out there, but he's already directed two episodes of The Flash and one of Supergirl, with a second Supergirl entry on his schedule later this year.

Naturally, Taylor tweeted his thoughts on the idea:

" title="<--social-media-->" class="pub_blog_post-social drupal-content" data-social-option="tw" data-social-value="https://twitter.com/robinlordtaylor/status/824661279285645312">

Just as quickly, Smith responded:

" title="<--social-media-->" class="pub_blog_post-social drupal-content" data-social-option="tw" data-social-value="https://twitter.com/ThatKevinSmith/status/824662043449921536">

On the surface, this makes plenty of sense. Not only does Smith have many films and those Supergirl and Flash episodes under his belt, but in addition to being a general comic book freak he is a massive Batman fanboy: He wrote the limited Batman: Cacophony series for DC a few years back, and his daughter is named after Harley Quinn, for Pete's sake.

There are some around the Syfy Wire virtual office who think Smith might be better suited for the bonkers craziness of Legends of Tomorrow, but what the heck, let him do both. We don't know if the little exchange between Taylor and Smith will lead anywhere, but Taylor is one of the most popular stars on Gotham -- he might well use his clout with the producers to get Smith the gig.

Gotham airs Monday at 8 p.m. on Fox. What do you think, should the show bring on Kevin Smith to direct some segments?
