After word broke that Disney has purchased Lucasfilm—with plans to start cranking out Star Wars films on a regular basis—it seems like everyone has something snarky to say about the move. But what about a few of the original stars?
Peter Mayhew, who played the Wookiee ass-kicker Chewbacca in the original Star Wars films, has opened up to TMZ about what he thinks is coming next for the franchise.
His take? Disney has hit a grand slam with Marvel's The Avengers, so why not give them a shot at Lucas' properties:
"I have no doubt Disney will respect and continue the legacy of Lucasfilm. I have worked with Disney for many years during their Star Wars Weekends Celebration and seen how much they love the films and the fans. [Disney] has an excellent track record for listening to the creator's voice!"Makes sense, and you can't argue that the Disney era has been a renaissance for Marvel's properties. Who knows, maybe this could be a return to the glory days for Star Wars?
Ahmed Best, who is best known for voicing the hated Jar Jar Binks in the recent prequel films, also had good things to say about the deal:
"George has always been a hero and a mentor. I am happy that the saga will continue."What do you think? Do Mayhew and Best have a point, or is this nothing more than a monumental cash-in on one of the biggest sci-fi properties ever created?
