Marvel's The Avengers heads to DVD and Blu-ray Sept. 25. It will include plenty of deleted scenes—but there's one that won't make the cut. Captain America (Chris Evans) and Peggy Carter's (Hayley Atwell) reunion will be nowhere in sight.
Even though The Avengers is a serious time jump from Captain America: The First Avenger, there were rumors of Atwell's return. Supposedly there was a scene shot between herself and Evans that hasn't seen the light of day. What happened to it?
In a recent interview, Atwell cleared the air about her cameo. She explained, "That wasn't cut. That wasn't filmed. That wasn't actually cut." It turns out, the scene never made it past the script stage.
Back in April, Whedon spoke to The New York Times and confirmed Peggy's initial inclusion in the film.
"One of the best scenes that I wrote was the beautiful and poignant scene between Steve and Peggy [Carter] that takes place in the present," Whedon revealed. "And I was the one who was like, 'Guys, we need to lose this. It was killing the rhythm of the thing.' And we did have a lot of Cap, because he really was the in for me."
Atwell's not sure if Peggy and Steve will ever meet again. When it comes to the sequel, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, she doesn't have a definite answer.
"I really can't say. I know they're getting ready for that now," she says. "That's a different thing. I'd very much love to be still part of the Marvel family. It was a wonderful experience. Peggy is gone. She's long gone, so it's up to the Marvel team [and] what they feel's going to propel the story forward."
Watch Atwell speak about The Avengers and Captain America starting at the 3:50 mark.
Would you have liked a Cap/Peggy reunion? Did Whedon make the right decision?
