Godzilla: Monster Planet (also known as Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters) will be the first animated Godzilla movie, as well as the first movie in a sci-fi monster trilogy, and we're already excited. The teaser was released in July. Now Toho Animation has dropped a trailer, which we have for you, below.

The story is set in 2048 and finds humanity fleeing Earth after losing the planet to giant monsters. But, a team eventually returns to Earth to find the planet's ecosystem has wildly changed and Godzilla is pretty much running the planet. Obviously, that's not great news for the human race.

At least Godzilla’s signature scream doesn’t need translation.

Toho Studios was created in 1932 as a kabuki theater company and branched out into film in 1935 with Three Sisters with Maiden Hearts. The company achieved international success in 1954 with Seven Samurai, followed the same year by Godzilla. Toho has been making animated movies since 1981, with children’s film Belle and Sebastian.
