Peter Jackson has kept much of his two-part adaptation of The Hobbit under wraps, but now we have a ton of new pics to take us back to Middle-earth—and it looks even cooler than we remember.
The J.R.R. Tolkien adaptation scored the cover of this week's Entertainment Weekly, and the magazine showed off 10 new pics from the prequel to the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Jackson also chats a bit about his take on the film, and says he's pulling from a variety of Tolkien sources to enrich the story. In addition to the main books, Tolkien famously wrote tons of history and background tales from his fictional universe. Jackson explains:
"In the movie we want these characters to have story lines and a little more substance than they do in the book. Almost everything we're doing is from Tolkien somewhere, whether it's in the book or the subsequent development that wasn't published in The Hobbit itself."The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey opens Dec. 14, while The Hobbit: There and Back Again is set for release Dec. 13, 2013.
Check out the 10 new pics below, and be sure to look out for some old friends among the lot:
