The current screen Man of Steel is hinting at some interesting developments in Justice League.
Warning: potential spoilers ahead!
Still with us? Okay ...
As many of you out there know, Superman died at the end of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, sacrificing himself to destroy Doomsday. But as everyone has surely realized by now, Kal-El of Krypton is coming back in Justice League: it's no secret that Cavill has been on the set, while publicity materials for the film place him right alongside his superfriends. The Search for Spock, this ain't.
But Supes will look a bit different for at least part of Justice League, it seems. Cavill has posted a photo on Instagram hinting that when Superman does come back, he'll be wearing black instead of his standard red and blue:
The black suit is a direct nod to the "Death of Superman" arc in the comics, in which a resurrected, long-haired Superman dons the sunlight-absorbing get-up at one point to provide more solar energy for his recovery. Just as Batman v Superman played a very loose variation on the fatal Superman/Doomsday confrontation, it seems as if Justice League will take its cues to some degree from the same material when it comes to Superman's revival.
By the way, here's another possible spoiler regarding just how Superman comes back to life:
According to Birth.Movies.Death, Superman's resurrection will be achieved in that chamber full of glop on the recovered Kryptonian ship in which Lex Luthor submerged Zod's body and turned it into Doomsday in the last movie. So make of that what you will.
What do you think of Superman wearing black in Justice League? I don't know about you, but I just had a bad flashback to the black Venom suit from Spider-Man 3.
Justice League is back in black on Nov. 17, 2017.
