The first season of Netflix’s Stranger Things was pretty much perfect, and now we know the three new characters who’ll be heading to Hawkins in 2017 (or 1984).
Netflix is officially bringing the nostalgic sci-fi series back for Season 2, and executive producer Shawn Levy opened up to The Hollywood Reporter about some of the changes fans can expect. Like most shows, Season 2 will introduce some new characters — but Levy promises they won’t distract from the characters we already know and love (and miss) from Season 1. The three new additions are described as “multigenerational” and “compelling,” and if they hit that target, the new folks should fit in great.
Here’s the casting breakdown for the newbies:
Max: A “tough and confident 13-year-old female whose appearance, behavior and pursuits are more typical of boys than of girls in the era.” She also has a messed-up home life, and a “difficult” relationship with her stepbrother Billy. She can also skateboard really well, which is how she’ll be getting around Hawkins (bicycles are so last season).
Billy: Max’s stepbrother, described as a “super muscular, overconfident 17-year-old.” He’s the mysterious new bad boy — to the point that rumors start circulating around Hawkins claiming he’s so “edgy” he killed someone at his old school. He’s classic 1980s cool, with a black Camaro to prove it. He’s also prone to break some hearts, so Nancy better watch out.
Roman: Could be a male or female between 30 and 38, described as someone who grew up homeless with a drug-addicted mother, he/she “suffered a great loss at an early age” and has been out for revenge ever since (maybe the monster struck at some point in the past?). Roman is “ultimately an outsider” who has trouble connecting with people.
Season 2 of Stranger Things premieres in 2017 and is set in the fall of 1984 (one year later than the first season). Apparently Will’s dissapearance was “only the beginning”…
